Introducing Inspire Colorado's Youth-Led Candidate Forum!

Inspire Colorado will be hosting a one of a kind event this March where young voters will have the opportunity to engage directly with candidates who could soon be representing them on issues that are important to their demographic. While this a unique opportunity for the youth of Colorado, Inspire Colorado hopes to make it a more commonplace occurrence through continued events like the Candidate Forum.

Inspire Colorado is excited to announce more details to our first youth-led candidate forum! For the past 5 months, our Inspired Leaders have been working hard to register their peers to vote--many of whom will be voting in their first election in 2016. We are looking forward to having our leaders, students they have registered, and other first time voters present at our forum to ask candidates questions about issues that matter to them!

More about the details of the event can be found here (including bios of the confirmed candidates) but we are particularly looking forward to hosting the ONLY youth-led and driven candidate forum in Denver. Issues that students within our high schools have shared that K-12 education, college affordability, poverty, and immigration are all priorities to our young people; we want our elected officials to make them priorities too.

The Secretary of State, Wayne Williams, will be our keynote for the event. Secretary Williams spoke to our Inspired Leaders in July at our inaugural Leadership Academy. Our students loved hearing from him in the summer and are excited about having him speak to our student leaders again. In addition, candidates for State Legislature races who have confirmed their attendance include Nancy Doty, Leslie Herod, Aaron Goldhamer, Alexander Jacobson and Dominick Moreno.

We are also excited about our partnership with History Colorado, who has donated space for the event itself. In addition to providing a venue, they will also be hosting a session on Democratic Principles available to students prior to the Candidate Forum itself. The Candidate Forum itself will begin at 6:30pm and last until 8pm. Following this, there will be a Meet and Greet between the candidates and young people in attendance.
